The History of Reimer Hardwoods

Reimer Hardwoods Ltd. was founded by Abbotsford residents Gordon and Diane Reimer in 1977, as a part-time business specializing in hardwood lumber sales to high school woodwork programs.

At that time, the company was called IES, Industrial Education Supply Ltd., and operated in shared warehouse space on Clearbrook's Windsor Street.

In the summer of 1981 the enterprise became a full-time concern for Gordon and Diane, and included several part-time employees.

Despite the recession in the early 1980's, Reimer Hardwoods continued to prosper. By 1983, it employed a full-time staff of seven, including Colin and Cathie Reimer, the founders children.

In autumn of the same year, the firm opened its first branch warehouse in Kelowna. This 2,500 square-foot facility was twice enlarged and then replaced in 1990 with our new 12,000 square foot building at 650 Adams Court in Kelowna.

The Loyalty of our customers brought continued success, and by 1986 further expansion was warranted. In the spring of that year, a warehouse near Victoria was opened.

This operation was contained in a 4,500 square-foot building in the Keating Cross area, but in 1993 relocated closer to Victoria and into our new 12,000 square-foot structure at 4240 Commerce Circle.

In the summer of 1986 the company built its first new warehouse on Peardonville Road in Abbotsford. Two years later the facility was expanded to 24,500 square-feet.

Reimer Hardwoods now operates in a new 70,000 square foot warehouse and office complex at 31135 Peardonville Road in Abbotsford.

For many years, Reimer Hardwoods has been a member of the Pacific Coast Wholesale Hardwood Distributors Association.

This By-Invitation-Only association has represented the concerns of major west coast distributors from Arizona to Alaska and Hawaii for over 80 years.

In December 2004 Gordon and Diane Reimer formally announced the transfer of ownership of Reimer Hardwoods Ltd to their son Colin Reimer. Colin, in turn announced intentions for Reimer Hardwoods to continue its growth in neighbouring Alberta. In September 2005 Reimer Hardwoods opened doors to its 12,000 sq ft facility in the Foothills Industrial area of Southeast Calgary.

Reimer Hardwoods is pleased to announce the expansion into Edmonton.

Reimer Hardwoods currently employs a full-time staff of 48, including administrators, warehousemen, millworkers, salespeople, and truck drivers.

The extensive product line includes high-quality rough and machined hardwood lumber, as well as hardwood products such as plywoods, and veneers. Also stocked are such products as melamine board, particle board, and many more fine products.

At this time, Gordon and Diane Reimer would like to extend their thanks to all the customers who have supported them and purchased products, helping to build the company during the years.

We look forward to providing the level of service that demonstrates Reimer Hardwoods commitment to its clients and the communities that it serves.
